back fusion

My sister enjoys heavy narcotic use and had been detox twice already. Had a back fusion 3 months ago and was doing absolutely great. Suddenly she said she felt something break. Don't know if that's real or just an excuse to use narcotics again. Anybody here ever had a back fusion and do you notice the fusion with pain or with movement?
